Galbraith et al. 2014, A single-visit field test of critical speed

Andy Galbraith, James Hopker, Stephen Lelliott, Louise Diddams & Louis Passfield. International Journal of Sports Physiology and Performance 9(6):931-935, 2014. Ten male distance runners performed three maximal time-trials on a single visit to an outdoor track over 3600, 2400 and 1200 m, longest first, to fit the distance-time relationship and derive critical speed (CS) and D’ (the distance that can be covered above CS). CS from the single-visit field test was highly correlated with CS from the traditional multi-visit treadmill time-to-exhaustion protocol, supporting the field test as a valid, practical alternative. A small validation study in trained runners.
