Tenforde et al. 2010, calcium, vitamin D and stress fractures in young athletes
Review of calcium and vitamin D in stress-fracture prevention. Cites trial and prospective evidence that higher calcium and dairy intake lowers stress-fracture rates, with the largest reductions in female athletes consuming more than 1,500 mg calcium per day, and that calcium plus vitamin D reduced stress fractures in female military recruits. Moderate; review of mostly observational and recruit-population data.
