Reliability and validity of myofascial trigger points (critical review)
Systematic critical review of manual palpation for identifying myofascial trigger points: the reliability of locating “knots” by feel is generally poor to at best moderate, better between experienced examiners than between experienced and inexperienced ones, and the underlying construct lacks a firm scientific basis. Localised pressure (self-myofascial release) acutely increases flexibility and reduces perceived soreness, but the trigger-point model itself is contested. Limited/contested.
